Because somebody has to…

Before I ride off into the sunset…

It is done, I no longer have a Xbox 360 in my possession, in its place stands a PS3. All the money I spent on inide and arcade games down the drain. My Xbox live subscription I paid 80 bucks for back in November, useless.

I don’t care.

As I talked about last post, my original 360′s dvd drive kicked the bucket, so I went and bought an old used one because 60 gb externals don’t work with slims, but when I got home I realized I’d be paying for a new one in a year anyway once the new used xbox’s dvd drive went. A poster suggested I get the 4mb slim and mod my 360 by switching out hard drives, why should I? I shouldn’t have to take apart the console to get the functionality I had before, risking destroying it if I mess up. This isn’t modding my xbox to play pirated games, its modding my 360 to get the same hard-drive space I did before. Huge difference.

When it was all said and done, I ended up spending about 300 dollars(console and a copy of little big planet 2) the same I’d pay for the  250 gb kinect bundle, but I’d STILL have to pay 20 bucks for a transfer cable if I wanted to save my data, fuck that! I’m not giving Microsoft another cent of my money.  I’m not paying Microsoft for another console, period. I’m also not paying 80 bucks a year to look at  ads on my dashboard. Microsoft only listens to one thing, money, and I’m voting with my wallet(and plenty of other people are too I heard).

Yes, the ps3 has no indies and it means I have to shut down this blog, but at least I can say it had nothing with to do with Indie community, it’s been a great two years(and I started reviewing them back in march 2010). I’ve played some excellent games, I’ve played games so bad I wanted to claw my eyes out, but I stuck with it and I would still be sticking with it if Microsoft weren’t a bunch of money grubbing assholes.

Maybe I’ll create an Android game review blog, I don’t know, I already have my hands full with my fiction

At least I’m stating why this blog is over, unlike some of my cohorts, who just disappear without a trace…

And with that, I ride off into sunset to play my PS3. Goodbye. I’ll miss you all, Silver Dollar Games most of all, strangely ;)

  1. Amen brotha. Although i still have my slim 360 in my possession (after my first crapped out in two damn years). I run two .com general videogame blogs detailing all systems and games. If my current 360 craps out i’m done with Xbox till next gen simple as that. I’ll simply write about PC, handhelds and PS3 games. My launch 60 gig fat backwards compatibility PS3 STILL works with the occasional game freezes but it still works 80% of the time. How, or should i say WHY do guys and gals buy 5 or more 360′s? Trust me they do. Its beyond me and i get paid to write about videogames.

  3. It’s unfortunate it had to end this way. This was my favorite XBOX Indie review site.

The very same thing happened to me. My launch 360 died, but since I develop games for it I needed another one. I did the 4GB Slim method where I manually unscrewed the hard drive on the old one and put it in the slim. Given your situation there’s not a lot of incentive for you to stick with the 360 so it’s very understandable.

If you do another review site be sure to tell everyone about it on this blog.

  5. I have my original xbox360, and it never died or crapped out. I keep the dust out, and make sure I plug it straight into the wall. It still runs great….its almost 3 years old ? Maybe 4 ? Is that possible ??

    • occasionally yes. I’ve had electronics which have long out lasted their peers with exceptional service life. Last month I retired a printer which I had for over 10 years. Oh and the PS3 is awesome, NO DASHBOARD ADS!!!

    • Oh I thought a lot of about it, talked with various people, and came to the conclusion. I also didn’t like being advertised endlessly to on Xbox Live. PSN is much more sudued about it.
