CastleMiner Z

Developer: DigitalDNA

Cost: 3 dollars

Castleminer Z at first seems to be a quick cash in, a way for Digtal DNA to make more money. But the more I played, the more I enjoyed about it. I’d even go so as far to say its better than Castleminer. There are three modes of play: Endurance, Survival and Free Build.

Endurance is the worst of the modes, simply seeing how far you can walk in a single day while fending off zombies. ZZZ…. Survival mode, however, is where its at. In this mode, you go mine ore and chop trees for wood. You use these materials to make weapons and walls to survive the night, when the zombies come out. Unlike Total Miner, you don’t have to find blueprints, all the recipies you need are available depending on the materials if you have available. Free mode is the building without the zombie and is useful if you find yourself out of items.

The game hasĀ  a nice survival horror feel to it. Materials are hard to find, items regularly break and at night the zombies are relentless. The only problem is, there’s not death penalty and real goal except to survive as long as possible, even online.

I’m going to recommend this over Castleminer as this tries to differentiate itself from its competition. I’d still pick Total Miner over this any day of the week, but you can’t go wrong here.
