Because somebody has to…

Nyan-Tech

Developer: Dot Zo Games

Cost: 1 Dollar

Nyan-Tech’s box does not lie, the goal of every level is the same, get the key and walk out the door. Of course, it’s never that simple. The game’s hook lies in the manipulation of blocks via  buttons. In each level, there are blocks with buttons  written on them. Pressing the button will toggle the block on and off. The block will remain toggled until pressed again or as long as you hold the button down, depending on the particular block. In addition, there is also a time limit which runs down as long as you are moving.

The main problem I had with this game is the finger dexterity required. Because you have be to moving and jumping while manipulating the buttons, you’ll experience a Twister situation on your controller of fingers bending around each other. After awhile, my fingers started to  hurt, especially later on, when they’ll be multiple buttons that need to be pressed at once. I could put up with the Twister situation in Try Not To Fart because all I to do was just hold the buttons, and not have to move left stick and continually press A as well.

There are 3o levels in total split among 3 difficulty levels, so the game isn’t that long, but by the end, you may be glad it is. While this game has gotten pretty good reviews, I beg to differ. People don’t put up with finger-breaking contortions in general, such problems can break a game’s reputation. Then why should people put up with it up here? Did the developers actually play their own game? “But what about Try Not To Fart?” one might ask. In that game at least I could hold the controller differently to achieve the pressing, I can’t here. That makes all the difference.

Still, if you can put up with the finger gymnastics required, you’ll find a short, but charming game. Whether you want to experience it is up to you.
